Your Kohala Coast Vacation Rental Deserves a Private Chef — Here's Why

You spent months planning this trip. You found the perfect vacation rental — a sprawling villa with ocean views, a chef's kitchen, and a lanai made for long evenings. The Kohala Coast delivered exactly what you imagined.
Now the question is: what are you doing for dinner?
For guests staying in vacation rentals along Hawaii's Kohala Coast — in communities like Kukio, Hualalai, Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani, Kohanaiki, and Kona Village — hiring a private chef isn't just convenient. It's the missing piece that transforms a great vacation into an extraordinary one.
The Problem with "Figuring Out Dinner" on the Kohala Coast
The Kohala Coast is remote by design. That's part of what makes it so special — the quiet, the space, the sense that you've left the world behind. But it also means that heading out for dinner requires effort: a 20- to 40-minute drive, a reservation you might have booked months in advance, and the end of a perfectly relaxed evening.
And if you're traveling with family, dietary restrictions, young kids, or a group with varying tastes, restaurant dining can quickly become the most stressful part of your vacation.
A private chef solves all of this.
What Private Chef Service Actually Looks Like
I get asked this a lot: "What does hiring a private chef actually involve?" The answer is simpler than most people expect.
You share your preferences. Before your trip or shortly after you arrive, we connect and I ask about your group — how many people, any dietary needs or allergies, flavor preferences, and what kind of experience you're hoping for.
I take care of everything else. Menu planning, ingredient sourcing from local farms and fishermen, shopping, prep, cooking, service, and cleanup.
Dinner is served on your schedule. You set the time. I'm there early enough to have everything ready. There's no rushing to make a reservation or waiting for a table.
I leave the kitchen cleaner than I found it. You wake up the next morning with no evidence that dinner ever happened — except the memory of an exceptional meal.
The Big Island Difference
What makes dining with a Big Island private chef different from anywhere else in the world is the ingredients. We are surrounded by extraordinary food:
Kona-caught ahi, opah, and kampachi from the Pacific just offshore
Waimea produce — some of the finest tomatoes, greens, and herbs in Hawaii
Hamakua mushrooms grown in the cool rainforest on the Hilo side
Local grass-fed beef and lamb from ranches in Waimea and South Kohala
Hawaiian sea salt harvested by hand on the island
Kona coffee and mac nuts that appear in both savory and sweet courses
