Private Chef at Kukio Golf & Beach Club — What to Expect from an In-Villa Dining Experience

There's something about Kukio that invites you to slow down. The gated quiet of the community, the ocean breeze off Kiholo Bay, the feeling that you've arrived somewhere genuinely off the beaten path on the Kohala Coast — it's the kind of place where a great meal doesn't just happen at a restaurant. It happens at your villa, on your lanai, with the Pacific stretched out in front of you.
That's where a private chef changes everything.
Why Kukio Guests Hire a Private Chef
Kukio Golf & Beach Club is one of the most exclusive private communities on the Big Island. Its members and guests arrive expecting a certain level of experience — and grocery runs, restaurant reservations, and nights spent figuring out where to eat don't fit that picture.
Hiring a private chef for your Kukio stay means:
No planning. You tell me your preferences, dietary needs, and what kind of evening you have in mind. I handle the rest — sourcing, shopping, prep, cooking, service, and cleanup.
Menus built around you. Whether you're celebrating an anniversary with a wine-paired four-course dinner or hosting a casual poolside dinner for the family, the menu is written for your group and no one else.
Local ingredients you won't find at a mainland grocery store. From Kona-caught ahi and opah to Hamakua mushrooms, Waimea tomatoes, and freshly harvested hearts of palm — Big Island ingredients make every meal a reflection of where you are.
What a Typical Kukio Private Chef Dinner Looks Like
Most Kukio clients book an evening dinner service, though I also accommodate breakfast, lunch, and multi-night arrangements for longer stays.
A typical evening unfolds like this:
Before your arrival: We connect to discuss your group size, any dietary restrictions, favorite flavors, and whether you have a specific occasion in mind. I build a personalized menu from there and send it for your review before I shop.
Day of the dinner: I arrive 90 minutes to two hours before your desired service time. I bring everything needed — ingredients, equipment, and serving pieces — and get to work in your kitchen while you enjoy your afternoon.
During dinner: I plate and serve each course at the pace you prefer. For groups who enjoy conversation with their chef, I'm happy to walk you through what's on the plate and where it came from. For those who prefer a quiet, seamless experience, I keep to the background.
After the last course: I clean the kitchen completely before I leave. You enjoy the rest of your evening without lifting a finger.
Sample Menu for a Kukio Villa Dinner
Here's an example of what a four-course dinner at a Kukio villa might look like — though every menu is custom:
Amuse Bouche: Spicy ahi poke on crispy wonton with sesame oil and green onion
First Course: Butter-poached Big Island lobster with citrus vinaigrette, microgreens, and roasted corn
Main Course: Pan-seared Kona kampachi with hearts of palm, roasted Hamakua mushrooms, and a yuzu beurre blanc
Dessert: Lilikoi panna cotta with macadamia nut brittle and fresh mango
Dishes change seasonally based on what's available from local farms and the Kona fishing fleet. I work closely with local fishermen, farmers, and purveyors to ensure every ingredient is at its peak.
Big Island Roots, Elevated Technique
I was born and raised on the Big Island and trained at the New England Culinary Institute before working as Executive Chef at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel — one of Hawaii's most storied resort properties. That combination of deep local knowledge and fine-dining technique is what I bring to every private chef experience.
When I cook at a Kukio villa, I'm not just preparing a meal. I'm drawing on years of relationship-building with Big Island farmers, fishermen, and food producers to put the best of this island on your table.
